Official time was 33:15 but I had 33:04... so I'll compromise with a 33:08. I'm not sure how the mix up happened but it's not a big deal.

9.7 mile warm up. Temps were a little chilly but pretty good during the warm up. I looped around the starting area and club house of the golf course 3 times hitting the first 3 miles. Then headed out 3 miles down into the industrial park below the freeway. Then came back and did a little more after changing shoes, taking a GU and hitting my 6th potty stop of the morning.

2 min's before the race started it started to rain sideways with wind. I was almost soaked before the gun went off. After getting wet and with chilly temps/ hard winds I got freezing cold. During the first 3 miles into a solid wind my arms, hands, fingers and wrists were almost numb. I'd try and shake them out and it was like dead weights. This is the first time I've ever got COLD during the actual running part of a race. Usually your cold before and after. Today I was freezing during and should have worn more cloths.

Anyhow .5 miles into the race I couldn't hear anyone close and knew I'd be rolling solo today. Tried to just get a solid push in up and down the hills of the first 3.5 miles. There's a couple uphills and some good downhills up to that point. I kept missing my splits so I was basically just running off feel. Once I hit the bottom and started the climbing 2 miles I just wanted to not give in to the uphill. I'd battled a headwind for the first 3.5 but for the first time of the day the wind was a good thing as it helped push me up the hills.

Once I finally got to the top I though I'd lay down the hammer on the last .8 or so to the finish. But as I rounded the corner I was hit in the face with a headwind again. Muther... It gave me a brain freeze. My forehead and temples were soaked and as the wind pounded me my head got as cold as if I were tubing in snow without wearing a winter hat. It was the craziest thing... just a cold wind. Crazy that just a few days ago it was 88 degrees.

Finished up and switched into some dry cloths for a short cool down. But I didn't need to "cool down" as my teeth were chattering for the next 40 min's until the awards were over.

Glad to get in the miles today and get my monthly 100 mpw over with for April. I didn't want to come hammer this. Had no plans to do anything but get some quicker miles in as part of a longer run. But I ended up hitting a PR on the course by around 63 seconds. Really surprised by that considering wind, me being trashed (the warm up about killed me). But I'm guess the cold part actually helped me race a little better than if it was hot.

Can't decide which is more impressive; 63 second course PR or 6 potty stops pre-race. Well done!
