12.3 mile morning run. Regular old overpass loop. Ah back to the same ol' bump and grind. It feels great to be back home in the STG. The run was good too. I mean nothing record breaking but it was a 6:56 pace for the run- pretty good for me in the morning. I had almost no pain at all in the chest this morning but there was a fair amount of blood. To be honest I'm a little scared to find out what's wrong...

(Red Stratus)

8 miles this evening up around GS and back home the long way around Middleton. I had a bad pain in the side/ chest for the first 2.5 or so and then it worked it's self out and I felt pretty good.

6:36 avg.

do you know if the blood is coming from the mouth or stomach. Nice to see you back.

From Jon on Wed, May 28, 2008 at 11:33:04

Are you seeing the doc today?

From Superfly on Wed, May 28, 2008 at 11:36:52

Bull- The blood isn't coming from my mouth it's coming from somewhere inside the body.

Jon- I'm going is as soon as they can get me in...It just depends on their schedule.

From Wildbull on Wed, May 28, 2008 at 12:07:47

sounds like an ulcer to me! But i am no doctor.

From dave holt on Wed, May 28, 2008 at 12:49:17

"But i am no doctor."

No truer word has ever been written!

From Superfly on Wed, May 28, 2008 at 13:05:25

Too funny-

Bill I've also thought it could be an ulcer or pulmonary embolism, tuberculosis(or related to TB), hernia, or a lot of other things. My guess is the Dr. won't be able to put his finger on it without running some tests...

From wildbull on Wed, May 28, 2008 at 13:13:58

Hey " I am no Doctor" But i did stay at the Holiday inn express last night!

From Kim on Wed, May 28, 2008 at 13:34:31

I read somewhere that it could be an infection of the lungs because of pneumonia or bronchitis. Good luck! I hope you get an appointment soon!

From Superfly on Wed, May 28, 2008 at 13:55:19

I just found out that I'm not dieing- at least from this. The Dr. said that it most likely isn't any of the things I mentioned above. Rather something possibly related to my allergies in the nasal cavity or some type of esophageal infection. He told me to monitor it for a week or so and then if it isn't better or is worse that he would run some more inclusive tests.

So the good news is that the problem is nothing major- The bad news is that I still don't know why I got all crampy during the Ogden Marathon and why that same pain still touches base with me every day. I guess running is o.k and I can continue to train. The only thing that suck is that training is in vain if I have a side/chest pain attack during any of my future planed races?

From Sasha Pachev on Wed, May 28, 2008 at 14:08:26

Clyde - Ogden was deceptively warm, and we were way out of range on the pace from 2 to 7. Plus you may have eaten something funny to make it worse.

From Kim on Wed, May 28, 2008 at 14:15:35

I'm sure you and Mik'L are sighing a huge relief at the moment! You've probably both been pretty worried. Glad to hear that is sounds like something you will be able to get better from!

From Superfly on Wed, May 28, 2008 at 14:28:19

Sasha regardless of time and place and temp at Ogden I still have the crampy pain that I had that day. So I know something is going on inside that isn't 100%. I just hope that I can heal whatever it is up.

Clyde Science says that if I wouldn't have got sick from whatever it is that is jacking up my system- I would have even or negative split at Ogden regardless of how hot you think it was.

From Superfly on Wed, May 28, 2008 at 14:29:32

Thanks Kim-

It's great to have such a good group of support on the blog.

From wildbull on Wed, May 28, 2008 at 14:34:51

I am glad to hear it is not something bad. Sounds like it should take care of it self. You should know how you are on one of your next long runs!

From josse on Wed, May 28, 2008 at 15:28:28

I have gotten side aches in marathons that I can feel for weeks after. You probably have a trigger point in your diaphram or intercostal muslces. I would go to a good massage therapist (sorry I don't live closer) and see if she/he can work it out for you. Make sure they know what they are doing and it will hurt like nothing other.

From Superfly on Wed, May 28, 2008 at 16:14:12

Josse that is actually good to hear. I didn't realize you can cramp up like that and feel it weeks later. How exactly should I have the massage therapist work on it? Like right on the side and front of the stomach? Or from my back? It would be great if I could fix this with a massage. Although that won't stop the blood issue.

From josse on Wed, May 28, 2008 at 16:21:13

If the blood issue is coming from the sinuses then it is not serious. Depending on where the pain is but I most likely would work with you lay on your back. Tell them what is going on and that you think it is coming form either your diaphram or intercostals and they should know what to do. I would go to the girl that Steve Hooper knows she seems like she is good. You can call me if she doesn't understand or if you need more info 801-830-3598

From Clay on Wed, May 28, 2008 at 23:19:13

Clyde I hope you get over this soon, its is good to hear that you can still train! But please be careful, and sometimes it is good to get a 2nd opinion just to be safe...
