First things first. It's a BOY! Due on March 7, and I'm really, really excited about it. We went to the ultrasound yesterday and everything seems to be just fine. The fact that our baby is going to be a boy was unmistakeable if you know what I mean.

I was going to take it easy this next year and maybe even stop running competitively. However after a lot of thought here is 3 reasons why I'll keep doing what I do:

1. I wasn't happy with one race in 2008 despite the increased volume and intensity.

2. I still have a hunger that isn't satisfied!

3. Because Peppi road me like Seabiscuit from Veyo to mile 23 and he ended up taking 3rd! Here is my photographic proof- Proof!

Congrats on the boy! Whoa, Clyde a daddy!

I saw that Pepi P. got third. He was the guy who passed me last year at 17M and was the guy that I knew would be the big challenge for top Master (he did it obviously with a solid time!).

A little boy, good deal! Having a kid will definitely change how you approach racing (you can't just do things on a whim), but that competitive fire will still be there, and lots of good running opportunities.

Those photos are hilarious, especially when you scroll through them fast. But I hate to say it: sometimes sitting on people pays off!

Congrats on the boy! Super exciting. I have that hunger that needs to be satsifed too, let me know what you guys decide on as far as a redemption marathon cuz I totally want in!

From Jon on Tue, Oct 07, 2008 at 10:14:29

Congrats on the boy!

Boys are better.....Congrats!

From Dustin on Tue, Oct 07, 2008 at 10:30:12

Congrats on the boy! As you know we've got three if you need any advice. Like Paul, mentioned having kids will definitely create new opportunities, but I'm sure you will find a way to find the balance that works to continue running and racing and still enjoy fatherhood. You're going to love it. I was very busy unpacking last night, but Jarren was wanting me to rock him to sleep (which I'm not good at, instead of Sunny) is was kind of funny of all nights, when I had a trailer loaded with boxes, he wanted me inside.

Back to Pepi. He may have beat you, but you do have better teeth! Or at least it appeared that way from the photo in the paper.

Congrats on the baby boy. Youll love it. Ive found that eating a lot of beans seems to help with people that like to coast along behind without doing their share. :)

From Clay on Tue, Oct 07, 2008 at 12:35:31

Congrats on the wonderful news, you will love it. Oh ya nice job of clearing the way for Peppi, great pictures...

From James W on Tue, Oct 07, 2008 at 14:41:38

Congratulations on the boy! We have three of our own as well. Although I am not doing another marathon this year, I feel the hunger as well.

From scotthughes on Tue, Oct 07, 2008 at 19:23:02

I was looking at the viseo that Steve had done of the marathon. There is a great shot of Pepi sucked in behind you.

Congrats on the news!

I am all in for another Marathon. I am liking the Tucson or CIM. They look like good redemption courses. It would be great fun to go as a group!

From James on Tue, Oct 07, 2008 at 20:10:10

Congrats on the boy! That is good news. Peppi did ride you like Seabiscuit, I noticed that in the pictures before you put them on the blog.

Thanks for all the support from all you experienced parents. It's nice to have friends that share similar goals and lifestyles. We're pretty excited about it. I feel a few years behind with everything. By the time this little guy gets here I'll be one month from my own 30th birthday. It is about time isn't it?

From Clay on Wed, Oct 08, 2008 at 15:39:30

Clyde that's okay about your age, I didn't have my first child until I was 31...

Your still young;-D

From paul on Wed, Oct 08, 2008 at 15:46:17

Yes, 29 is the PERFECT age to have your first kid ;-)

From Sasha Pachev on Wed, Oct 08, 2008 at 15:57:53

Clyde - I've got a scripture just for you. Ether 9:24:

And it came to pass that his wife died, being an hundred and two years old. And it came to pass that Coriantum took to wife, in his old age, a young maid, and begat sons and daughters; wherefore he lived until he was an hundred and forty and two years old.

From Mik'L on Wed, Oct 08, 2008 at 18:40:00

Sasha- I personally do NOT appreciate that scripture in this context.

From Lybi on Thu, Oct 09, 2008 at 00:30:54

i have three things to say:

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS! Boys are the best!

Second, GO Seabiscuit! Those pictures are hysterical.

Third: Sasha, Ew. Truly. Ew.

Maybe your running club could take up a collection and get your Seabiscuit buddy a make-over. Send his finish photo into Oprah or Ellen to see if they will put him on TV for a full make-over, first teeth, then teeth-whitener, a stylish haircut, a shave and some hygene hints. I really think he was getting high on your race day after-shave or Hi Karate cologne. You gotta love people that love you too. Run Forrest Run!
