Ran around Little Valley with Jeff S this morning. He is staying with us for the weekend and we wanted to get a solid workout in this morning:) Legs felt pretty good once we got up to pace (7:35 ish). Just took it EZ and enjoyed the morning. The weather is crazy right now so who knows what's going to happen tomorrow.

I'm nervous...

Bummer race today. Hit the half in 1:14 a little slower than planned but I thought I could still manage a good second half. The legs never would turn over and even down the step grades of like Snow Canyon I couldn't go much faster than 6 min pace. Stopped trying to race at  mile 17 and was in 5th at that time. Maintained that place up to 20 an hit it in 1:55... then really decided that it wasn't happening and by 21 I wanted to drop out. I found someone with a phone and called Mik'L to meet me at the top of Bluff. But she didn't wan't to... so I just walked/ jogged in. Along the way I helped pace Amber G for a couple miles down to Diagnel St. Then my tummy was starting to act up so I told her to take off. After that I walked some more and ran with Austin and Trevor for a little while then kind of left them. Jogged in right around Steve O who also was just milking it too. The weather was hot... in fact they said it was the hottest ever. I'm guessing that had something to do with it but I run in the heat all summer and turn in training runs better than today so... who knows where I'm at in my running career. Back to the old drawing board I guess. The only positive to today's run was that because the last 10 miles I basically jogged in my legs aren't totally jacked like they are when I race the entire distance.

CIM anyone?

Taking a real recovery for once even though the legs aren't as bad as usual. Calves not sore at all- could the socks have really worked?

Happy Birthday to my little bride. We drove to Vegas today for the night. Went to Phantom of the Opera. Legs feeling better only sore in the quads.

Got home from Vegas and did the B-hills loop. Still planning on taking the rest of the week EZ to give a full recovery and semi EZ next week too. Then I'll decide what I'm going to do for the rest of the year.

Second post marathon run. Legs felt great. Almost no soreness at all and a big improvement from last night. No watch but pace was pretty brisk as I was thinking about the marathon the entire run and just kept getting more and more angry.

Middle B-hills loop. It was 48 F this morning. The first time in the 40's since spring. This weather is just one week too late. The run felt great other than the potty stop in a porta by a new home under construction. However mentally every time I run now I start getting angry and sad about last Saturday. I have a million "why's" that need answering in my mind.

Out and back into B-hills. It was cool and humid making it possible to see my breath. I guess fall is upon us- I would have taken this morning a week ago. Moving on though the run was good. Kept it smooth and didn't try and force anything. Time was around 57 min according to the microwave.

Out around the B-hills loop in reverse this morning. 55 F felt just right with a long sleeve tech shirt  and gloves on. I'm in a weird place right now.

Didn't plan on running again today but my uncle called and was going to be over here so we went out. Nice and slow pace with a couple walk breaks. He is coming off a knee injury and just getting back to around a 5 mile run. Anyways it was a EZ way to add some mileage.

Out and back run into B-hills pushing Myler. It was a beautiful morning. I actually didn't get out until around 9:40 so by the time we finished it was a little warm. We ran into Scott and chatted in B-hills. My legs were feeling pretty good and on the way back I picked up the pace to about as tempo as you can while pushing the baby jogger.

Logan came over early and we did a out and back into B-hills. I had a long sleeve on and wished it was only a short sleeve 4 miles into the run. Not super hot but not as cool as I thought. Nice and EZ run in the darkness. It's crazy how fast the days are getting shorter. This same run during the summer months would have mostly been during the light but today it was all dark. Legs felt pretty good. I'll continue to hit similar mileage the rest of this week before trying to bump it back up next week.

B-hills loop. Legs felt kind of spunky so on the last mile up the hill from the gas station I let them roll at around LT pace. Didn't have a watch but it was a solid push. Listened to Skid Row up the hill:)

DC/ River Road loop. It ended up being a little shorter than the normal 10.2 because of some construction but still hit 10 miles straight up. Hit the first mile in 7:50 but then the legs felt a nice groove and ended up running a 1:09:40 or a 6:58 avg for the run. Never jumped into tempo effort but just let the legs run and 6:35 pace felt smooth and EZ back home from the DC.

Found out today than I didn't get into St. Judes. So now I'm leaning to running the Mesquite marathon on November 20... I kind of wanted something a little more glamorous but this will be a easy for travel. Still not firm as I would like to to somewhere else to run.

Pretty good big workout this morning with Logan. No Dave we didn't ask ya because you've been sick... would have loved to have ya there though.

3.5 mile warm up over to the corner by Staheli farm.

Then we did 10x 2 min @ 5:05 pace with 2 min recovery between sets. We just ran our normal tempo loop but when we got to River Road we dropped back down the trial into B-hills then back to my house. On the tempo section the pace was really consistent at around a 5:05 avg for all 10 sets. Other than the first one that was 4:50 and then 6th that was up the hills in the industrial park and it was around 5:25. We hit a total of 6.3 miles during the tempo section and with the 2 min of recovery between each set we still had a 6:01 avg for that length because I just left the clock ticking the entire time.

I was pretty happy with the final results. After feeling like complete garbage two weeks ago during the marathon I was pumped to feel the legs willing and able to go out and run hard.

4.8 mile cool down back to my house. It was special because there was pretty sunrise... Logan wanted to hold hands but I was like sha right?

B-hills loop this morning. Legs felt just bad. My calves were a little sore from Saturdays workout but still runnable. However things felt kind of like they did in the marathon a few weeks ago. In fact it was strikingly similar. I just couldn't get any turnover and trying to get the legs to roll was all labor. I'm not sure the reason. It was pretty humid this morning with temps around 60 F.... I just don't know but I'd love to stop having these kind of running days.

Inner B-hills loop. Still pretty drained tonight. I need  a solid nights rest.

DC/ River Road loop. Construction has taken .2 off this course and made it 10 miles straight up. I felt night and day better than I've been feeling and I was DEAD. Spent the day shoveling, and moving dirt. Plus planted 3 massive trees.... alone. Glad to push a run in after a long, long day.

One of the scariest runs of my life. I did the same loop as yesterday. Didn't leave the house until after Mik'L got home from the office and meetings at almost 6:30 p.m. There was a hefty storm rolling in but I didn't think much about it. By the time I got over to the end of B-hills and on the trail there was lighting striking everywhere. All sides of town and in town. Each strike seemed to get closer and closer and by the time I was on the trail up past the DC on the way back to River Road it was an all out down poor. For the last 5 miles of this run I honestly went into 5k race pace as fast as I could back home. The legs were flying and my heart was about to jump out of my chest. On top of it all my lungs were full of a ton of dust from the wood chips I'd been spreading around the yard the last two days. This was creating a BIG problem. I just couldn't get enough air in and the lungs felt "pinched" as I was coughing up junk.

Anyways I made it home and for the next 2 hours I was in kind of a hyperventilated, crazy mental state... all worked up about the run, storm, lighting. It was actually kind of scary and Mik'L wanted to take me to the ER on several occasions. But after a few hours I finally calmed down, caught my breath and was able to go to sleep at around 11 p.m.

I guess you had to be here but it was pretty intense for  a while.

Took Myler out to try and get a shorter run in. I was planning on going on the inner B-hills loop but... about 2 miles into it I just was dead. Couldn't really go anymore. Then had to stop and sit on a bench for about 10 min's. Finally I got going again enough to make it back home.

Not sure why I was so trashed. Maybe the tempo/ race pace last night and the lungs stuff? IDK? Anyways Mik'L wouldn't let me run again today so I took the afternoon off.

I'm a roller coaster right now. Some runs are just horrible and some are great. Today's was pretty dang good. Looped out into the fields and then Stone Cliff and back through B-hills. I started with a 7:50 mile to warm up then everything else was sub 7 min. I wasn't trying to go into tempo gear just to run smooth and easy. In fact around mile 3 I felt a little tired and thought I was working too hard for 7:20 pace... I looked at the garmin and was at 6:15 pace. No wonder. So just tried to relax and slow down but the pace never really got slower than 6:40 the rest of the run.

Hit the run with a 6:46 avg or 9.85 miles in 1:06

6.5 miles tonight around my hood mapping out a mile repeat course. Saved the life of two little dogs from a speeding truck. Yeah I'm a hero.

Big workout this morning with Logan at my house. I've been wanting to set up a good mile repeat course out on the roads so I did and we ran it. The course is pretty tough/ honest... I'd say 5-8 seconds slower than on a track. It loops around my house. The loop is 1.3 miles long. So we start the mile section and then have a .3 recovery or just over 2 min's. There is some slight downhill and some slight to good uphill.

We hit a 5.6 mile warm up then got going. With the miles @ 5:13, 5:16, 5:20, 5:14, 5:17

Logan and I were really pumped to hit such a good workout. Starting off we both thought it would be good to keep them under 5:30... so we did that and more. Legs felt pretty good. Tummy not so much as on the 3rd one I started the dry heaving and it stayed with me until we stopped. But all things considered this is one of the best workouts for me in some time. Plus it was very humid. Logan looked like he jumped in and out of a pool three times just during our warm up.

B-hills loop in reverse. It was kind of windy, rainy and darkish out this morning. Calves are a little tight from Saturdays speed workout. Hope to get a good well rounded week in.

P.M.

Looped then middle B-hills run. Felt kind of slushy from a big lunch. Plus my shoes are starting to feel their age... now over 800 miles on this pair of Asics Pulse.

Stone Cliff loop with Logan this morning. It was a brisk 44 F when we started and down to 42 F when we finished. By far the coolest temps so far for the season. I had to pull out the ear band and gloves. Nothing special this morning with a 7:16 avg for the run.

B-hills loop. Chilly again this morning. I guess it's time to finally let fall come in and in that case I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving and Christmas food. Mmm!

P.M. B-hills loop. Ran in some new shoes. I ordered 2 new pair of Asics Pulse. The last pair I had got over 800 miles on them... not too bad outside the Sasha standard. I wish every run could be in a new pair of shoes.

DC/ River Road loop. Very chilly this morning. 37 at my house and 34 at the Little Valley Weather Station. Burrrrrito! Actually once I was out running it wasn't bad at all and by the end of the run I was ready to be done with the gloves and ear band.

DC/ River Road loop again. Had to hit the same porta potty that I hit this morning. So doubles with that too. Felt pretty trashed coming back up River Road.

DC/ River Road loop again. I just didn't want to think about it so I ran this loop out of repetition today. When I woke this morning I felt like junk but 4 miles into the run I was feeling pretty good about the day. Running weather is just priceless right now. This morning was a little warmer than the last couple days... 45 F when I got out.

6.7 miles this evening around the middle B-hills loop. Temps and conditions were amazing. I had just got done golfing 9 holes with my Uncle and Father-in-law where I played pretty good. Then did a quick run before dinner. Had fun just being outside.

Did a fairly taxing out and back run with Dave and Logan from Logan's house out through Keyenta and up the Gunlock road. On the way out we just chit chatted but still kept things moving hitting the turn around in 1:17:40. There are a lot of hills and rollers in both directions but going out is by far slower.

At the turn we naturally increased the pace but didn't really get going until around 14.5 miles into the run. From then on it was a solid push. I worked the uphill sections at around 6:30 pace then pushed the downhill out at sub 5:30 pace. I hit over a 12 min negative split coming in at 1:05:08 for the return flight- a 6:30 avg.

Really good workout at the end of a long week. Legs wanted to give up Friday morning but I was happy to see I could work through it and put together a solid run. Now I'm getting another head cold!
