A good rest day so far. The legs are really not too sore- maybe the least sore I've ever been after a marathon. That's the good news. 

The bad news is the longer I've been home and had time to think about it the more upset I get about Saturday. I went into that race in better shape than I've ever been before a marathon and it turned out to be a big disappointment. The sad part is I don't even know why I got all sore and cramped in my stomach anyways. So I can't fix the problem next time.

It wasn't the heat. To be honest I never really got hot. Once on the trail down in town I started splashing water on my head but that was at mile 23 or so. I started having pain at mile 12? 

The pace wasn't too fast. If that were the case I'd have hit a normal wall at like 20 or so on in.  I mean we're talking mile 12 and then from there on I never could get back into race pace due to the crampy pain.  In fact the legs wanted to go on several occasions. It just would hurt  in my upper ab's and I'd have to slow again.

My diet was very similar to previous marathons... so I'm not sure about that one either.

But like I said- I really wish I knew what the deal was so I could work on a solution for next time. I just needed to vent this all out. I've just been pretty emotional about it since getting home and it doesn't help that my little trooper wife is gone.

"Scream" That is what I feel like doing!

Thanks for the comment, yea the race felt really good to end a troublesome season. But hey do you know of any supplements that would help me and boost my performance. I already take a multi-vitamin but herd you were the one to go too and just want any type of advantage.

This just happens in marathon and sometimes you can't explain it. But alot of times you can, for me I remebered (thanks to Jon) that I have a hard time with salt balance and over hydrated myself before the race. It could be a problem like that or some other electrolyte imbalance. Muscle cramping usually is due to that. There is a link that Jon gave me on my blog under the comments for today that talks about salt imbalances or you could look up muscle cramping as well.

I feel for you though I have had alot of marathons like yours where you are in great shape and it just doesn't show in your preformance. Don't get to down it is not worth it because there is absolutly nothing you can do after the fact.

Did you see that cool picture of you and Sasha? You guys are in perfect synce with each other and floating off the ground. It looks so cool.

Clyde, sorry it didn't go all the way as planned (it never does, does it). But the troubles at 12 are very crappy. I guess if I need to fill you up with some BS here it is... Even with all the struggles you still hit a quality time (I know, that doesn't do any good, because then you just think of what you could have done), so... Here are my real thoughts: I really think you are in better overall shape, but you don't have the fine tuning of the summer race season and super high-quality marathon specific workouts that you always generate during the summer. Now did that cause the stomach problems? Probably not, but it should be the thought you carry with you as you head into the summer. Even though the race didn't go as planned, it (and your training up to it) set you up for the best possible race you can have at SGM (and your going to need it - we are going to battle! I mean that in the positive "let's kick butt together" way, not the "I'm calling you out" way!) As far as getting over it... Get out and jog a little, but just a little. Give yourself a chance to heal up. When I just sat around, I dropped into a running depression that I am just coming out of and affected all aspects of my life. Anyway... whatever.

Clyde, maybe you pulled something while running, or stretch wrong during the pre-race time. What you need to do is let it go and move on. You know your in the best shape and you are going to have a race in the future where you felt like you did at St George last year. Just look how far you've come, a 2:35 and knowing you have a problem while running is an accomplishment.

You should really thank God you got that time and didn't hurt so bad that you had to pull out. I would thank God for giving you the mental toughness to finish. Use your anger towards training for the next race which is?

Clyde, all great athletes and even successful business people, have a few things in common. Drive,

Determination and an unbreakable spirit! I would only look at Ogden, as fuel for the fire. All the greats have the ability, to take there dissapointment and failures and feed off them. They hold them close enough to remember, but never dwell upon them. Ogden will help you on days you don't feel like running. It will help you on those last few miles in races. There is always a silver lining in everything. I read a book about Michael Jordan. The man had won everything possible and been given all the awards and praise imaginable. The funny thing, he still wanted to win more than anyone else. He would use anything and everything possible to motivate himself. I know what a great runner you are. I really think, this is just one of those things that will make you faster in the future. Maybe, the positive outweighs the negative, even with Ogden. Think about it Bro, see you on the road!!

You know the old saying "what doesn't kill us only makes us stronger." I can't explain what happened at Ogden for you, your body is an amazing machine but things can go haywire at times inside and your system could just have been having a hard day. You WILL rebound and have some awesome races in front of you.

You need to vent to get it out of your mind, then use the energy to get back to solid training.

As others have already said, it takes some determination and help from God to do what you did, be proud of that.

See you in June at WBR where you will kick some serious tail.

Dave I'm feeling you. I'm ready to either kill myself training this summer or get hella fast. The good news is "The Kid" will be here to train with us in a little over a week and we're all going to be smokin'.
