I did a little loop run out on a desert trail by my house. I felt a lot better than the day before. It ended up being 6.6 miles, then I came home and switched into some new race shoes and did 1 mile out and 1 back just to get use to the shoes a little before the Spectrum 10k next week.

Hey Clyde Sweet new picture. So, how did those shoes feel when you tried them out? I came home and put 4 miles on those mizunos and they feel so much better than my old asics. I didn't realize how thrashed my asics really were. I think they were part of my problem with my calf muscles/ achilles getting so tight.

My new racer shoes felt good. Really light, and breathable. Did you get a deal on your mizunos?

Clyde:

In answer to your question, given your heavy frame and tendency to injury I would avoid Deseret News. That is the only marathon that has made my legs feel sore enough to make running painful afterwards in the last two years. My legs do have quite a bit of resistance to pounding. They are not sore after Alta Perivian Lodge or St. George. In the summer I run down the Squaw Peak road full-blast (4:30 pace) for the whole 4 miles, and do not feel anything afterwards.

Salt Lake in June should also give you more time for recovery.
