I did a version of my big loop run. Switched some things up and made it an even 12 miles. It was an amazing day in STG. I left my house at 4:30 and it felt like it was 80. The first 3 miles are uphill and my calves were as tight as they have ever been. I thought about turning around but waited until I crested the hill to see if they felt better. They did and I was able to pick it up from there. Finished, and felt good other than my legs where hot trying to fall asleep.

Clyde - good work. Regarding your question on supplements. My approach is to focus on eating right. Then you should not need any supplements on a regular basis. I suppose they would be helpful if you were in adverse conditions and were not able to eat a healthy balanced diet.

However, during the race my problem is that I cannot afford to stop and eat a full meal. I can get close - last year I ate 4 bananas without slowing down during the St. George marathon. However, this does not quite cut it - I need to find something that restores the glycogen availability quickly. Powerade kind of works in the second half of the race for me. But I feel there is something better. I am going to experiment.
