I'm kind of a gluten for punishment. Today I went back up on the mesa and had the time of my life. Well maybe not. I took the bike and had Mik'L haul me up to the watertank in the truck then biked from there up the road to where the trail head. Then up the switch backs to the top. This took about one hour and twenty min's from the time Mik'L dropped me off. As I was working across the top I felt like thins were strange and right before I really started to drop off on the downhill I blew a tire. Ef! No problem I'll just pull it off and repair it with my trusty trail patch kit- NOT. I bought this crap-o-la junk thing a Wal-Mart and it jacked me up. So the glueless patch kits don't work! Now I'm 9 miles from anywhere and stuck up on the Broken Mesa with a bike I don't want to leave up there but it would be A LOT easier if I could just run home. So I push the bike down off the sucker running where at all possible. I start to go cross country off the trail to try and save time but every time I do it costs me even more. I finally made it back to the watertank and met up with Mik'L who I had called. Total time out- over 4 hours. But hey I found one fresh deer antler. The crazy thing is that I kind of want to go back tomorrow morning.... |
